UDHAMPUR, May 5: Police today foiled a major attempt of bovine smuggling and rescued 78 animals besides seizure of three trucks and arrest of the smugglers.
Based on reliable information, a Police Party from PP Tikri laid a surprise naka on the National Highway near Tikri and intercepted three trucks. The truck bearing registration number JK02T-0225 was found loaded with 31 bovine animals, JK02AC-9811 with 28 bovine animals and JK02Q-5493 with 19 bovine animals. Total 78 bovine animals were found loaded in the trucks, which was on way towards Kashmir.
Police arrested drivers of the trucks, who were identified as Ashiq Ali of Krimchi Udhampur, Istayq Ahmed of Bhatindi Jammu and Mohd Sharif of Nagrota Khanpur.
Police also seized the trucks and registered three different FIRs in this connection.
