REASI, May 6: Father of girl and a Police Constable among three persons were arrested for severely beating up a youth, who had allegedly tried to outrage modesty of a young woman at Pouni, here yesterday.
Counter FIRs were registered by both the parties against each others while the youth is undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Hospital Jammu where he was referred by the PHC Pouni in view of serious injuries. The incident had taken place on the intervening night of May 4-5.
Bashir Ahmed of Talwara had lodged a written complaint at Police Station Pouni that his daughter had gone to her maternal uncle’s house at Pouni where one Rahul Kumar of Talwara attempted to outrage her modesty. As the girl raised alarm, other family members came and caught hold the said Rahul Kumar. On this complaint, a case FIR No. 22/2016 U/S 451/376/211/354 RPC was registered.
However, after half an hour, one Gian Chand of Talwara also lodged a written complaint at Police Station Pouni alleging that his nephew namely Rahul Kumar son of Ram Chand of Talwara had gone to Pouni on 04.05.2016 in his vehicle. The persons namely Bashir Ahmed, Shokat, Gaffur, Constable Mohd Sultan and some other unknown persons caught him hold and took him to in-laws house of Bashir Ahmed at Talwara where they kept him in illegal confinement and beat him up mercilessly due to which Rahul Kumar received grievous injuries. On this compliant, a case Fir No. 23/2016 U/S 342/323/34 RPC was registered against the accused persons.
As Rahul Kumar has received serious injuries, Police swung into action and arrested Bashir Ahmed, father of the girl and Ghulam Nabi of Pouni for assaulting the youth. Further after confirmation of involvement of Police Constable Mohd Sultan in assaulting the youth, SSP Reasi ordered his immediate suspension after which he was also taken into custody.
Efforts were on to nab the other accused persons and the SSP Reasi has directed Dy SP Headquarters Reasi to look into the case personally in view of its sensitivity and social implications.
Earlier, today, people held protest and blocked main Reasi road at Zero Morh Talwara for about half an hour demanding stern action against those involved in beating up the youth.
They claimed that Rahul had gone to Kheral to meet his friend who was there to spend holidays. The relatives of girl saw him and beat him mercilessly.
