BJP Ministers become target of own legislators

JAMMU, May 6: To maintain a good liaison with people, BJP today decided that party Ministers will hold a public darbar in all the districts of Kashmir valley on May 11 to hear the problems of the people and take on spot decisions for their redressal.
This decision was taken in the joint meeting of Party Ministers and legislators here this afternoon which was chaired by national vice president of the Party Avinash Rai Khanna. The Party ministers were asked to hold public darbars in the 10 districts of valley and Ladakh region on the same day.
The Party also decided that for the convenience of the people of Jammu region one Minister will be available at Party office every week. The decision was taken by the BJP to strengthen its base in Kashmir Valley as well as increase liaison with the masses in all the three regions of the State.
The Party has also to hold the public darbar by the Ministers in Jammu too. However, its date will be announced later, sources added.
The BJP’s Legislature Party meeting also saw some of the legislators voicing their concern over style of functioning of the party Ministers saying they were not paying heed to MLAs and MLCs and had been concentrating only towards their own Assembly segments.
Some of the party legislators were of the view that the coalition Ministers especially those from the BJP should ensure that demands and problems voiced by the party legislators are met with and the Ministers are readily available to them. They pointed out that some of the Ministers had often been seen avoiding the legislators and senior BJP leaders.
An MLA expressed concern over the hurdles being created by a senior officer in his area in the execution of the developmental works and demanded that he should be transferred.
Some Legislators were also of the opinion that few officers were deliberately trying to create hurdles in smooth functioning of the Government work and they need to be shifted immediately.
While bracing up for the Legislative Session which will be held in Srinagar later this month, the Party decided that its Legislators will raise the issues of public importance of their respective areas. The Legislators were asked by the Party leadership to be well prepared for the same, Party sources said.
Sources said some BJP legislators during the meeting while expressing serious concern over the monopoly of some over stayed officers demanded their immediate transfer for the smooth functioning of the Government.
The Legislators also showed concern over the problems being faced by the people due to unscheduled power cuts and water crisis in some areas and demanded that the steps be taken on war footing basis to provide relief to the people by ensuring proper power and water supply. They demanded that Government should ensure that the people in Jammu region are not put to hardships due to unscheduled power cuts or curtailment in water supply
In the Summer an extra arrangements be made to avert that.
They demanded that Government should ensure the buffer stock of transformers in Jammu for the Summer season so that people are not put to more hardships on account of breaking down of transformers. Besides, the Government should also ensure proper water supply.
Addressing the meeting Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh said that 400 transformers have been kept as stand by and PDD will ensure proper power supply.
He said the coalition is working to provide good and corruption free Government and both BJP and PDP is committed to the same. He said various developmental activities and welfare schemes have been launched in the State by the Government and various prestigious projects stand sanctioned for the development of the State with the efforts of party Ministers.
Dr Singh said that people have to bear with power cuts in some areas were the new lines and transformers are being installed.
State president of the party Sat Sharma, Party general secretary (Org) Ashok Kaul and general secretaries Pawan Khajuria and Harinder Gupta attended the meting. All Ministers barring MoS of Education Priya Sethi and Minister of Transport Sunil Sharma were present in the meeting.
