SRINAGAR, Sept 17: Additional General Secretary, National Conference, Dr Mustafa Kamal today said that NC considers restoration of autonomous status of the State as the basic step for creation of goodwill for resolution of the Kashmir issue.
Concluding his tour of Kargil and Drass here, Dr Kamal, said, ” Kashmir problem has been a source of conflict in this area and for the resolution of this issue both Governments of India and Pakistan shall have to consider the people’s aspirations across the Line of Control.
Speaking in the conventions at Kargil and Drass, Dr Kamal strongly demanded the Party’s demand of reopening all trade routes.
“The demand of reopening of old trade routes of Kargil-Askardu, Srinagar-Rawalpindi and Poonch-Balakote should be taken on priority on both sides, not only to improve their quality of living but also help develop closer contacts and trade”, said Kamal.
The Additional General Secretary while congratulating the people for the approval of construction of Zojila tunnel in the State, said that the tunnel will provide all weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh, which remains cut off from the mainland for six to seven months during winter due to heavy snowfall on Jammu-Srinagar-Zojila-Kargil-Leh.
The Omar Abdullah led Government has relentlessly advocated the construction of the tunnel and now it has become a reality, he added.
Transport Minister, Qamar Ali Akhoon, in his address said that the Coalition Government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah is very much eager to develop this region and taking necessary steps for ensuring the availability of basic amenities to the people living in the far-flung and border areas of the State.
MLA, Zanskar Feroz Ahmad Khan and MLC Kargil, Aga Syed Ahmad Rizvi, also addressed the gathering.
