JAMMU, May 6: Department of Physics and Electronics of University of Jammu organized an event titled “Popular Science Lectures” to celebrate National Science Day.
This event was catalyzed and supported by the National Council for Science & Technology Communication, DST, New Delhi and J&K State Science Technology and Innovation Council.
Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest in the inaugural function which was attended by the Dean Sciences, Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean Student Welfare Prof. Pankaj Shrivastava, Head, faculty members, research scholars, post graduate students of the of the Department of Physics and Electronics.
In his inaugural address, Prof RD Sharma talked about the importance of publishing research in the journals of good impact and on the requirement of communicating the research output to the masses.
Prof Rajni Dhingra emphasized on popularizing of science and added that every field of study today can progress effectively if a scientific approach is adopted.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Prof Vivek K Gupta, Head of the Department.
The first session started with a presentation by Prof SK Badyal, wherein he talked about the various national empowerment schemes.
Dr Kirti Ranjan, Associate Prof, Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Jammu spoke on the topic “Large Hadron Collider: A window to the beginning of the Universe and Indian Contribution”.
In the third session, the students presented their presentations on the focal theme.
The event ended with vote of thanks by Dr Ramni Gupta, Programme Coordinator of the programme.
