SRINAGAR, May 7: Chinar 9 Jawan festival was today held at Sanctorumi Institute by Army which was attended by more than 2300 students and locals from Sopore and Baramulla areas of North Kashmir.
A defence spokesman said the event was specifically planned for the students as well as the unemployed youth of the area. “It was in furtherance of the initiatives being undertaken by the Army to promote & motivate youth of the Valley,” he said.
The event was attended by various dignitaries including GOC Shareefabad, Major General Jarken Gamlin, Commander Haiderbeigh, Brigadier Shabih Haider Naqvi, DIG Baramulla, Uttam Chand, Director North Kashmir, KU, Prof Irshad Wani, SSP Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussaina, SP Sopore, Harmeet Singh, MS District Hospital Baramulla, Dr Syed Masood and others.
“The event commenced with the finals of the inter school debate competition where 12 students competed in two categories for the final prizes. Prior to this, the prelims and semifinals had already been conducted by the Army wherein a total of 115 students from 35 schools from the Baramulla district participated.
Thereafter, motivational and inspiring talks were given to the students by Mr Tariq Chalkoo from Baramulla Degree College and Prof Irshad Wani as they infused lot of enthusiasm and fervour amongst the students, he said. “The students were also given an opportunity to listen to Mr Akhtar from JKEDI Baramulla, Ahmer Khan, a photographer by profession and Aabid, a young budding entrepreneur from Srinagar,” he said.
The spokesman said the children were spellbound by the plethora of experience and knowledge shared by the speakers. “Thereafter, Brigadier Naqvi addressed the gathering and gave the locals and students lot of thoughts to ponder upon as they embark upon their future careers,” he said.
Finally, Major General Jarken Gamlin addressed the gathering & complimented all for their participation and encouragement to the initiatives being undertaken by the Army. “He assured the local populace and the students for the continued & unstinted support from the Army in all matters related to the development of the society as well as efforts to harbinger peace in the Valley,” the spokesman added.
