People must protect historical monuments: Sheikh Nazir

Srinagar, Apr 19 : National Conference (NC) general secretary Advocate Sheikh Nazir Ahmad has urged the people to preserve the historical monuments of the state. He said that Kashmir is known for its historical monuments. People from all over the world visit Kashmir to have a glimpse of all these historical monuments, which have political importance also.
Nazir said that Mujahid Manzil has its own historical importance as it has been the centre of revolution against Dogra rule. He said almost all the towering political personalities started their political career from Mujahid Manzil, adding that leaders across the globe have visited this political institution.
Talking about the importance of Pathar Masjid, Sheikh Nazir said that even though this is a very important religious place but during the Dogra regime it was used by the Dogra rulers for storing arms and ammunition. He emphasized that it was Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who started the movement to vacate the army from that place.
Nazir urged the new generation to study the history of Kashmir to know the importance of all the historical monuments of the state so that they can play pivotal role in protecting these monuments. He also demanded that immediate steps be taken to preserve all such monuments which reflect Kashmiryat.
