Indo-Pak trade increased by 7.8 pc

NEW DELHI: The volume of trade between India and Pakistan has shown an increase of 184.86 million dollars, compared to 2014-15. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman said the total volume of Indo-Pak bilateral trade during 2014-15 was 2354.60 million dollar, while it was 2539.46 million dollar during 2015-16.
Ms Sitharaman said the volume of trade of India with Pakistan has increased by 7.6 per cent during the said period. The export to Pakistan has increased, while the import went down. In 2014-15, the total export to Pakistan was 1857.29 million dollars, whereas the imports were 97.31 million dollars.
In 2015-16, the export rose to 2098.43 million dollars, whereas the import went down further to 441.03 million dollars. In her reply, she said the government took steps to improve bilateral trade between the two countries, including operationalisation of an integrated check post (ICP) at Attari (Amritsar) to streamline the movement of trucks and enhance the flow of trade through land route. To increase business between the two countries, business visas were being issued for a validity of up to three years with multiple entries to prominent Pakistani businessmen. (AGENCIES)
