Migrants protest in front of RC office against denial of ration

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, May 9: Protesting against non disbursement of ration for last three months to the displaced people, Kashmir Migrant Relief Holders and Migrant Welfare Committee staged a demonstration in front of Relief Organization and demanded immediate supply of ration in Jagti township, other migrant camps and non camp localities where the members of displaced community are putting up.
The protesters raising slogans against the CAPD and Government said that State Government’s callousness has added to the woes of migrants. Despite the issuance of order on April 12 last month that the migrants will be issued ration as per old scale, the CAPD Department has failed to honour the Government order by withholding the ration supply to displaced people.
They termed it a human rights violation and injustice with the people who have been forced to flee from the Valley on gun point and due to failure of the Government to ensure them security in Kashmir from Jehadi elements.
They wanted to seek an answer from those in power at Delhi and in the State that how far the Pandits from Valley will remain in this wilderness and how long they will be deprived of their rights.
The protest was led by Sunil Pandita and Vijay Koul who said that it was for the first time since 1990 that migrants were denied ration under a sinister design. They said many migrant families are at the verge of starvation. They also criticized the community leadership of maintaining silence over the issue.
Vinod Zutshi, Sushant Bhat, Sunil Kumar, Sunil Raina, Rajinder Pandita and others addressed the protest.
Meanwhile, Kashmiri Displaced Forum chairman A K Sadhu has also expressed his anguish over the failure of Government to supply the ration in migrant camps and alleged that there is a hue and cry in Jagti and other camps as many displaced families are at the verge of starvation.
He made an appeal to Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, Basharat Bukhari to take the cognizance of the matter and issue orders to the concerned Department to supply the ration in migrant camps before the situation takes a critical turn.
