JAMMU, May 9: Team Jammu-a social organisation today sought resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to book drug mafia with sedition charges. A month long Assembly session is starting in Srinagar from May 25.
‘’We appeal to all political parties to bring a resolution in the Assembly to book drug mafia with sedition charges,’’ Chairman Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal here told reporters here. He said, ‘’On the one hand terrorism is playing with the lives of the common masses but simultaneously it is drug mafia which is spoiling youth of the State”, adding, “Those who are involved supplying drugs to youth are also anti-national and they should also be booked under sedition charges to give them strict message.
Spoiling younger generation of the State is also an act against nation’’. Expressing concern over failure of the authorities to keep a check on drug mafia in Jammu region, Mr Jamwal asked all political parties of the State to evolve consensus on taking effective steps to eradicate this menace so as to liberate the younger generation from death trap.
“All political parties are duty-bound to evolve a mechanism to deal with menace because State is virtually slipping into the tight grip of drug mafia, parents are helplessly watching their teenage children dying slow deaths due to failure of the authorities to crack down on mafia well connected with some corrupt politicians and cops,’’ he said.
“The forthcoming budget session of the Assembly will provide opportunity to all political parties to take initiative in this direction’’, he asserted and hoped that State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti will take the lead in fighting against drug mafia. Mr Jamwal said continuing its campaign against drug mafia and drug lords, Team Jammu has decided to organise anti-drug rally at Samba on May 15.
Samba’s rally would be the fourth successive anti-drug rally to educate the younger generation against this menace which has been slowly gripping youth of Jammu region. Earlier the rallies were organised at Jammu, Rajouri and Katra.
Team Jammu is an organisation of young professionals, social activists, sports persons, doctors, journalists, educationists, technocrats, retired army and police officers, and intellectuals, has taken the initiative to get the Jammu rid of drug menace.
However, revealing the facts, he also said around 200 youths have died in a period of three years due to drugs in Samba, Rajouri, Katra and Jammu. Mr Jamwal also demanded a full-fledged drug de-addiction centre in the State.
