SRINAGAR, May 9: On the day of re-opening of Civil Secretariat in summer capital here after six months as part of Durbar Move tradition, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) held protest against coalition Government and its president Ghulam Ahmad Mir accused Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti of double-speak.
The PCC leaders and workers led by G A Mir took out a rally from party headquarters here at Maulana Azad Road this morning and chanted slogans against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Holding party flags, the PCC protesters also raised slogans against RSS and other saffron parties.
Amid sloganeering, the protesters led by PCC Chief attempted to march towards Civil Secretariat but a large posse of police personnel stopped them near Budshah Chowk and urged them to return back. The protesters then sat down near party headquarters and staged a protest against the State Government.
Speaking to reporters, the PCC chief castigated Mehbooba Mufti for aligning with BJP and questioned her decision of shaking hands with the saffron party. He also opposed the reported proposal of establishing colony for ex-servicemen in Kashmir valley and said the Congress won’t allow move that would alter the Article 370.
“We want to remind Mehbooba Mufti that in 2014 you went into nook and corner of the Kashmir and asked people to make PDP strong because ‘only we can stop BJP and RSS from achieving power’. And that’s why people of Jammu Kashmir believed her words and supported (PDP)…,” Mir told reporters and asked Mehbooba what compelled her to align with BJP. He accused Chief Minister of betraying voters in broad day light by shaking hands with “RSS, BJP and VHP”.
In reply to a question regarding Government’s reported proposal of establishing Sainik colony in Srinagar and Budgam districts, the PCC Chief said the Congress party will never allow implementation of such proposal. “We have condemned it and Congress party will never allow RSS to encroach Special Status of our State by way of Article 370 through Mehbooba Mufti’s hands,” Mir said.
Taking a jibe at Chief Minister, Mir said on the one side Divisional Commissioner prepares document seeking 350 kanals of land for Sainik colony and on the other the Mehbooba states that ‘there is no such proposal’. “This is dual-faced politics,” he alleged.
He while taking a dig “at hasty and faulty implementation” of National Food Security Act in the State,  accused Coalition Government of implementing the Act in haste without adequate ground work and in the absence of discussions and debate in the State legislature over the implications of its implementation in the State.
The PCC chief also blamed PDP-BJP coalition for being non serious about  the regularization issue of daily-rated workers working in different departments, problems confronting RAMSA teachers  in absence of monthly pay dues, SRO 105 which has left quarry workers of Srinagar and elsewhere jobless, considerable rise in unemployment in the state and several other issues concerning people.
Later, the protesters led Mir returned to PCC headquarters before dispersing off peacefully. The rally was attended by  former PCC President, Peerzada M Syed, senior-vice president, PCC, Shamlal Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, CLP Leader Nawang Rigzin Jora, Leader of the house in LC Jugal Kishore Sharma, former Minister Taj Mohi-u-din, MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga, MLA GM Saroori, MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Muhammad Anwar Bhat, MLA Viqar Rasool Wani, MLA Usman Majeed, MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani, MLA Asgar Karbalai, MLA D, Namgiyal, MLA Muhammad Amin Bhat and others.
