Jammu Division GDCs to have online admission process: Hemant

JAMMU, May 14: The admission of students to Part -I of BA, BSc, BCom, BBA and BCA courses in all the Government Degree Colleges of Jammu Division shall be online for the session 2016 – 17.
This was disclosed by Hemant Kumar Sharma, Secretary to Government Higher Education Department, J&K, while chairing a meeting held in GGM Science College Jammu.
“The entire online software will be developed for the purpose by NIC, Government of India under the aegis of Higher Education Dept, J&K. This innovative admission process is aimed at making it student friendly, transparent besides enabling the college administration and the policy makers to analyse the admission data efficiently and effectively for formulation of future policies”, he added.
He said that the software is user friendly, enabling the students to apply for the admission online, providing necessary information to them regarding the selection status besides meeting all the requirements related to admission process like generation of merit lists, admission forms along with bank challans for admission fee, allotment of class roll numbers, generation of Identity Cards, statistical data, etc.
The Secretary directed for holding of a meeting in the coming week wherein Jammu University will present its requirements before NIC for facilitating the submission of Registration Return (RR) through online mode.
He also directed the colleges for automation of Libraries facilitating the faculty and students in knowing the status regarding the availability of the book. In this regard, the Secretary recommended the use of Open Source Software, SOHA, for automation of Libraries.
While reviewing the functioning of GCET during the meeting, the Secretary directed the JKPCC to effect modification in Girls Hostel, Boys Hostel, Administrative Block, Library and Over Head Tank of the college as pointed out by the Principal.
The meeting among others was attended by Dr Ajeet Angral, Nodal Principal, Principal GCET, representatives from NIC and representative of admission committees of colleges and officers from JKPCC.
