ANANTNAG, May 15: National Conference leader today said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s fear of losing the Anantnag by-election was shameful and tragic and said it had yet again highlighted PDP’s imminent political rout from the State.
Addressing a day-long workers’ convention at Anziwala, Anantnag,  senior National Conference leaders lashed out at the PDP-BJP Government for foisting an unholy, opportunistic political alliance on the people of the State and said PDP’s shocking ideological u-turn had rendered the party unpalatable in every nook and corner of the State.
National Conference general secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar said this was the first time in the history of the State and perhaps the entire country that a sitting Chief Minister was openly terrified of her own electoral defeat. “Mehbooba Mufti lied to the Election Commission and used her political influence in the ruling circles in New Delhi to get the Anantnag Assembly seat by-election postponed. She knows her defeat from Anantnag is a foregone conclusion and hence she will go to any extent to run away from her electoral test till she possibly can.”, he said while addressing party workers.
National Conference provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani said the PDP-BJP Government had abandoned all their promises and were solely obsessed with the spoils of political power. “Every single promise PDP made before elections and every single promise they made in the ‘Agenda of the Alliance’ has been broken within the very first year of this alliance. Recent incidents and reactions by the people of the entire State, including Anantnag have made it amply clear that PDP has been completely rejected at the grassroots level. The Chief Minister’s loss from Anantnag is inevitable and her fear is justified,” he  said.
The convention was organized by National Conference constituency in-charge Anantnag, Iftikhar Misger and was also addressed by party Legislators Altaf Ahmed Kaloo, Abdul Majid Larmi, Dr  Bashir Ahmed Veeri, Showkat Hussain Ganai besides various party leaders, activists and office bearers of the party’s parent and youth wings.
