KVM concerned over delay in establishment of GMC at Kathua

KATHUA, May 16: The members of the Executive Body and Advisory Board of Kathua Vikas Manch (KVM) have expressed anguish and grave concern over delaying the establishment of Medical College at Kathua along with four other Medical Colleges for J&K State about three years back.
A meeting of KVM was held in this context to discuss the perturbing and sensitive issue at length under the chairmanship of Prof. Ram Murti Sharma, President of the Manch.
The members demanded a thorough probe as to how Kathua, which fulfilled all the requisite formalities and parameters (including the land) has been dropped out from the list of Medical Colleges approved by the State and Union Govt. for commissioning the construction work, particularly when the then Health Minister J&K had given instructions for renovating the old district. They opined that the existing campus of Government District Hospital Kathua including the Ravi-Tawi premises was an ideal option for the establishment of Medical College at Kathua.
They exhorted upon the concerned authorities to get the most genuine issue resolved at an earliest.
The issue of not giving practical shape to Mahatma Gandhi Maternity & Child Care Hospital sanctioned in 2004 despite the construction of alternate building of Government. Middle School(A) Kathua at Shaheedi Chowk and demolishing of erstwhile old building of Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School Kathua was also taken up seriously.
The members reiterated the demand of early resumption of abandoned work of establishment of Inter State Bus Stand (ISBS) and Kathua (South) campus of Jammu University. Meanwhile the members expressed satisfaction over the settlement of the KV land demarcation and issuing the circular for Teaching Urdu language by the concerned authorities.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Saroop Chander, Pitamber Dutt Sharma, Daya Nand Sharma, Mohinder Nath Sharma, Babu Ram Bhagat, Bansi Lal Gupta, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Om Parkash Sharma, Col. (Ret.) Ved Parkash Sharma, Thoru Ram Mahajan and many others.
