RAJOURI, May 16: One person was killed on the spot while seven others injured when an uncontrolled speeding car ran over them near MES unit gate in Rajouri town this evening.
A police spokesman said that one Joginder Lal alias Sham Lal, son of Nihal Chand, resident of Ward No. 10, Rajouri was killed on the spot. He was standing outside his tea stall on the road side while couple of other persons were also standing nearby. It was at around 5.40 pm when speeding Maruti car No. JK02AK/ 4399 went out of control and ran over the persons standing outside the shop on the road side on Jammu-Poonch highway near MES Gate, just closer to petrol pump. The injured were rushed to Army hospital.
Dev Raj, a retired Police Inspector who received serious injuries was referred to GMC Hospital Jammu. The other injured are identified as Mohd Nazir from Doongi, Mohd Irshad from Bathuni, Abdul Kabir from Jawahar Nagar Rajouri, Mohd Shakeel from Darra Sangla, Nusrat Kouser ( 10) and Tasveer Hussain from Doongi. Dead body of the deceased was shifted to DH Rajouri for postmortem by SHO Rajouri, Chaman Gorkha.
