JAMMU, May 16: A Class 11th student was today crushed to death by a mini-bus in Talab Tillo area of city outskirts leading to strong protest by the relatives and neighbours of the bereaved family against mini-bus drivers and traffic police.
According to the reports, Janvi Gupta (16) daughter of Naresh Gupta, resident of Lane No 12, Talab Tillo, along with his brother Reshu Gupta was on her way to home on their scooty bearing registration number JK02Bl-8392, when a rashly driven mini-bus hit their scooty near Poonch House on Talab Tillo road, this afternoon. As, Janvi Gupta and her brother fell on the road, another speeding mini-bus crushed Janvi’s head badly.
In serious condition, Janvi was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where doctors declared her as brought dead. After completing all medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites. In the mishap, Reshu Gupta also received minor injuries and was provided first aid at GMCH.
As soon as the news of Janvi’s death spread in the vicinity, relatives and neighbours of the bereaved family assembled on Talab Tillo road near the deceased’s residence and staged a protest, demanding stringent steps by the traffic police against the mini-bus drivers, who drive rashly.
The protesting people raised slogans against the traffic police and also blocked vehicular traffic on the busy Talab Tillo road for about two hours. They also demanded to make speed breakers on specific places on the Talab Tillo road to discourage rash driving so that such mishaps do not occur in future.
However, the protestors lifted the blockage later after getting assurances from the senior officers of police as well as civil administration.
Meanwhile, a case in connection with the mishap was registered at concerned police station and both the mini-buses (bearing registration No JK02BG-2085 and JK02S-5595) involved in the mishap seized.
The accused drivers identified as Shera Kumar son of late Kamal Kumar of Gajansoo (who was driving mini-bus with registration No JK02BG-2085) and Roop Lal son of Sukh Raj of Bohri (who was driving mini-bus with registration No JK02S-5595) were also arrested.
