Improve medicare facilities

Sir,
This has reference to the article ‘Tyranny of the Distances’ DE May 15.
The article is thought provoking one, as it reveals the problems of farflung areas of the State. The proper medicare facilities are yet to reach the people living in remote areas of this State. Though Government has set up PHCs in these areas, the fact remain these PHCs do not meet the needs of people living there. These PHCs do not have much infrastructure and staff to provide aid to people. As a result, people have to travel long distances to seek medicare either in towns or twin capitals of the State. In cities they have to bear lot of expenses on account of boarding and lodging facilities which at times becomes extremely difficult to bear them. Besides, it results in over crowding of hospitals in cities, and in turn affects service delivery. To overcome the problem,  the Government must emphasis on improving medicare facilities in rural areas. There are already certain schemes exclusively for rural people which need to be implemented whole heartedly. Besides, the dearth of doctors is another area of concern. There must    be a mandatory posting of doctors in rural area. It is not necessary that newly appointed doctors be posted there, services of senior doctors could be utilised.
The Government must have a Health Policy for the State to provide quality care on the whole.
Yours etc…
