JAMMU, May 18: A Laparoscopic surgery workshop was organized at Rajouri. Laparoscopic surgery has been introduced in this region for the very first time.
The aim of the workshop was to reach out to the ex servicemen, their families and serving personnel at this remote location and provide them with comprehensive latest surgical management for their ailments and benefits of the key hole surgery.
The operations were done at Army’s Hospital by the dedicated Surgical and Anaesthesia team of Indian Army. Dedicated faculty of laparoscopic surgical team lead by Army Surgeon, carried out a training workshop along with performing surgery.
A total of 14 patients were operated using the latest state of art- laparoscopic surgery equipments which were installed two weeks back. In total 5 surgeons were trained and they carried out surgeries independently under strict guidance of Laparoscopic surgical team.
All patients had uneventful recovery and were fit for discharge in the second post operative day. Apart from laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair and laparoscopic appendicectomy were also performed. One of the Army doctors single handedly gave anaesthesia to all fourteen patients during this camp.
The highlight of the event was the successful surgery of 32 yrs old female suffering from Down’s syndrome who had been deprived the surgery at various centres considering the complications associated with her surgery. This challenging surgery was performed by Army doctors.
The Army has been actively working on upgradation of health care facilities in remote locations.
