POONCH, May 18: The District Development Board (DDB) that met today under the chairmanship of the Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari, approved Rs. 178.59 crore for the year 2016-2017 for Poonch district.
Member Parliament Jugal Kishore, Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar, MLA Shah Mohammad Tantary, MLA Ch. Mohammad Akram, MLA Javed Ahmed Rana, Deputy Chairman Legislative Council Jahangir Hussain Mir, MLC Yashpal Sharma, MLC Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board For Development of Pahari Speaking People Kuldeep Raj Gupta, District Development Commissioner M H Malik, SSP J S Johar, Chief Engineer PDD, PMGSY, R&B besides HoD’s and sectoral officer from the different departments attended the meeting.
The DDC briefed the meeting about physical and financial achievements of different departments in the district. He informed the meeting that against an approved outlay of Rs 173.28 crore for the year 2015-16 an amount of Rs 75.85 crore was made available and Rs 75.09 crore have been spent on approved schemes till March 31, 2016.
The meeting discussed the education sector during which where MLAs and MLCs raised queries of pending work of university campus Poonch, opening of new Higher Secondary Schools in Jhullas and Khanater areas of the district and introduction of science streams in Higher Secondary School Sabjian and Girls Higher Secondary School Mankote.
Responding to the queries, the Minister for Education Naeem Akhter said all these issues will be addressed by the Government as quality education is necessary for overall development of the society. He also directed the Director School Education to use innovative measures for the betterment of the education sector.
On the occasion, the Revenue Minister, who is also chairman of DDB Poonch, highlighted the achievements of the present dispensation and said the Government is committed to ensure equitable development of all the regions of the State.
During the meeting, the legislators asked for special package to develop infrastructure in Poonch town along the LoC trade route areas and stressed for commencement of work on polytechnic college, early completion of Mandi bridge and Mandi Phagla road, opening of Tatta Pani road and circular road for Poonch town, besides identification of new tourism spots.
Responding to the legislators, the Minister said that Government will leave no stone unturned for equal development of all the regions. He directed the concerned departments to prepare the DPR for circular road and assured them that he will take the matter with MHA for the opening of Tatta Pani road.
Vice Chairman, Pahari Advisory Board Kuldeep Raj Gupta raised issues pertaining to the betterment of Pahari speaking people.
