Sikh bodies condemn attack on religious leaders

JAMMU, May 21: Various Sikh organizations of the State today strongly condemned the alleged attack on some Sikh religious leaders/ preachers by the miscreants in Ludhiana (Punjab).
In a joint press statement leaders of  Sikh bodies including Sikh United Front, Shiromani Akali Dal, BKNSS, AISSF, Sikh Naujwan Sabha, Sikh Welfare Society, J&K Motor Transport Company Association  and five elected members of DGPC Jammu  condemned the murderous attack on Kirtan Jatha of Bhai Ranjit Singh in Punjab. They said that Jatha was returning after preaching religious ‘Samagam’ . One of the   Jatha preachers  Bhai Bhupinder Singh was killed due to bullet injuries in the attack.
Avtar Singh Khalsa, general secretary of Sikh United Front and Member DGPC Jammu said that Sikh community has shocked over the unfortunate incident of attack on Sikh religious preachers. These persons spread religious education and awareness among the society besides preaching love, unity  and brotherhood.  He criticized the Akali-BJP Government in Punjab which failed to nab the accused persons.  He demanded that all the accused be arrested and action under law of the land  should be taken against them.
Mr Khalsa further appealed the Sikh community to celebrate all the festival as per Nanak Shahi Calender as Dera Nangali  Sahib Poonch and Akal Takhat Sahib Amritsar celebrate all the Sikh festivals as per Nanak Shahi calendar. He also appealed the Sikh community to remain vigilant from the falsehood and confusion being created by self styled leaders of the community in the State.
Dharbinder Singh, Ramneek Singh, Raja Singh, Fateh Singh-all DGPC Jammu members; Surinder Singh Kala- convenor J&K Motor Transport Companies Association; Mohinder Singh, Paramjit Singh, Rajinder Singh, Kulwant Singh, Harpal Singh, Inder Pal Singh and others were also present and spoke on the occasion.
