Army flags-off expedition to Friendship Peak

RAJOURI, May 25: Eight young girls and 10 boys of the remote Sagra and Balnoi areas of Mendhar tehsil were flagged-off on a challenging triathlon expedition to Friendship Peak (5289 M) in the Himalayas by the Indian Army Division here today.
Selected, trained and inspired to ‘Go where their dreams take them’, by the Brigade at Krishna Ghati, this expedition was planned to summit Friendship Peak on June 14 with all technical and administrative support being provided by the Battalion at Balnoi.
After a 37 kilometres trek and ascent to the peak, the young summiteers will surmount the rapids of the Beas river in a white water rafting expedition over 12 kilometres in the third leg of triathlon.
The young triathletes during flagging-off ceremony were presented the ice-axe with the Indian, Army and Expedition flags to be placed on the summit by Deputy General Officer Commanding from Army.
Deputy General Officer Commanding exhorted the youth to empower themselves to conquer new horizons and be the strength of a vibrant India.
