Govt to develop ‘Model Apple Village’ in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 27: Government today said it has identified Khiram Sirhama village in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district to develop it as ‘Model Apple Village’ in the Valley.
In a written reply to MLC Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, the Incharge Minister, Horticulture Department, said a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being formulated in consultation with SKUAST- Kashmir with regard to the Apple Village. The MLC had reminded Government of its promise in 2015-16 Budget speech.
The Minister said it has no proposal under consideration to set up a horticulture research laboratory/ soil testing laboratory at Chini-Wuder in Bijbehera area of Anantnag where previously a 6000 MTs capacity Apple grading centre existed but later gutted during militancy.
Regarding progress on ‘Apni Mandi’ at Marhama in Bijbehera, the Minister stated that 30 kanals of Kahchari land was identified by the Department for its establishment at Dalovehard in Marhama.
“The case was submitted to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir for transfer of Kahchari land who advised that some land other than Kahchari land be identified,” he said and informed that his department is developing a Hi-tech Market at Jablipora in Bijbehara which is within 10 Kilometers from Marhama and will cater to the requirements of the entire district.
