Work on Rs 42 cr Doodh Ganga WSS underway: Govt

SRINAGAR, May 28: State Government today said the work on controversial Rs 42 crore Doodh Ganga Water Supply Scheme (WSS) is underway in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
In reply to a question of MLC Ali Muhammad Dar, the Minister Incharge, PHE, I&FC Department, said the work that was started by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) is underway. The pipeline originates from Doodh Ganga in Chadoora Tehsil in Budgam and the project had invited widespread opposition from locals.
However, the Government dismisses the public opposition and said “only a small section of people” interrupted the work. The Government in its reply, further said that the estimated cost of the project is Rs. 42.54 crore and so far an amount of R. 14.28 crore has been incurred on the sub-project.
The Minister further stated that the then State Government in 2013 had approved the project in the 19th meeting of the governing body of J&K ERA held on September 16  under the chairmanship of the, then Chief Minister for inclusion of the project under ADB funding.
“The work is presently under execution and is in progress without any issues or any sort of resentment from public. The project will be taken to its logical end with completion of the scheme as per the approved plans and designs,” the Government added.
