Army organizes awareness camp, workshop

POONCH, May 28: Army organized an agriculture awareness camp for farmers in Balakote sector and a workshop on horticulture for farmers at Chhatral.
As horticulture and agriculture are primary source of livelihood for people in this area, therefore to assist the locals, ten farmers was chosen for allotment of demonstration farms by Agriculture Department. As part of this programme, farmers were given free certified maize seeds and fertilizers for sowing in eight kanal land each.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer of Poonch informed the people that all out efforts are being made by the department to provide best quality seeds on subsidized rates to farmers along with technical know- how about crops and sowing pattern aiming at better yields.
As part of joint initiatives by Army and Civil Administration, foundation stone of one check dam was laid at Dharati village, which is now on verge of completion and provide water for irrigation purpose. The farmers were also made aware about the latest agricultural practices and incentives in terms of subsidies by the Government.
Meanwhile, with the help of Horticulture Department, Army organized a lecture for the local farmers at Chhatral to spread awareness on horticulture.
During the lecture, farmers were briefed on many issues like conservation technology, specific area crop production, seed treatment, balanced fertilizer and insect/pest disease management.
