JAMMU, Sept 19: Some KP organizations while taking stock of the yesterdays Apex Committee meeting held at Srinagar termed it an eye wash.
The Jammu and Kashmir Vichar Manch (JKVM) and Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) in their separate statements have accused the coalition Government of hoodwinking the community once again.
The JKVM which held a meeting here today has expressed total dismay over the outcome of the Apex meet. The meeting was presided by president JKVM, B L Bhat and it was attended by national vice president, Dr R L Bhat, national general secretary H L Bhat and Executive members Ashok Kangan, Pradip Koul, Pran Pandita, Shibanji Haku , Tej Sagar and Ashok Ji Batergam. It said the JKVM had already predicted that the meeting would be another futile exercise. Trying to quell the fears expressed by JKVM the Government agencies had come out with a long list of agenda, misleading the displaced community with another round of false hopes, it added.
Addressing the meeting Dr Bhat said the Apex has become a tool to distract the attention of the displaced community. The meeting was held to dupe the people and even Central Government that attention at higher level is being paid to migrants’ problems. This is the reason that second meeting in a row was presided over by Chief Minister he added. Otherwise the meeting did not take any decision or give any succor to displaced people and no serious issue was discussed. Return and rehabilitation was touched in passing. The Temple and Shrine Bill did not figure in the meeting and on enhancement of relief it was again said that Government will approach the Centre, he added.
KPC chief Kundan Kashmiri in his statement said that recommending the enhancement of relief to Rs 10,000 to Centre was to put ball in Union Government’s court and disassociate from responsibility which the State Government has been always doing.
He said the meeting has failed to take a decision over the rehabilitation of over-aged youth, on passage of Shrines and Temples Bill, nullification of distress sale, transfer and posting of female migrant teachers from Valley to secure places in Jammu, representation of the community in legislative bodies. He also strongly condemned the removal of four KP members from the Committee and neglecting the problems of the migrants putting up at Delhi. He said the construction of 160 shops at Jagti and 558 TRTs at Purkhoo was an old proposal.
