672 SPOs appointed, 986 cases of compassionate appointment received: Govt

SRINAGAR, June 2: Government today said it has engaged 672 Special Police Officers (SPOs) in Police Department since March 2015 and have received 986 cases related to compassionate appointment of Next Of Kins (NOKs) of the deceased police personnel since 2009.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Mohammed Akbar Lone in Lower House, Minister Incharge Home said since March 2015 till date, 672 youth have been engaged as SPOs in the Police Department on operational ground. “Keeping in view the nature of their engagement (operational grounds) it would not be feasible to disclose their names,” the Minister said.
In another written reply to a question of MLA Raja Manzoor in Lower House, the Minister said 986 cases relating to compassionate appointment of NOKs of the late police personnel have been received by the Department from police Headquarters since 2009 till date.
About disposal of cases, he said 146 cases were referred to GAD for appointment of NOKs of late police personnel in Civil Department, 165 cases referred back to PHQ for completion of documents/ seeking necessary clarifications, 73 cases under examination in the Home Department, 180 cases of late police personnel pending in Home Department for not being covered under rules/ relaxation policy of GAD, 307 number of cases in which orders have been issued by ( GAD/ Home),” the Minister said.
Besides 115 cases of NOKs of SPOs who died prior to issuance of SRO-302 of 2009 dated 01.10.2009 are also pending for not being covered under the SRO, said the Minister. The Minister further said the cases of NOKs of the late police personnel involving relaxation of different kinds are being settled on case to case basis in consultation with General Administration Department.
