Srinagar, June 2: Uri Awami Mela, a multi spectrum platform to benefit the local populace of Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, was today organized by Army’s 12 Infantry Brigade.
A defence official said a milestone in itself the mela showcased the unflinching association between the people and Army as also the enthusiastic participation by all Govt and civil agencies.
Chinar Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Satish Dua, visited the venue and inaugurated Chinar 9Jawan Club for the youth of Uri and Kalapahar Auditorium for the students of Army Goodwill School.
“General Officer opened the facility of Chinar 9Jawan Club for local youth aiming at positive canalization of their energy and developing their skills for holistic growth. He congratulated the gathering on organizing such a mega event and distributed prizes to the civil porters and Ex-servicemen President, Uri for their hard work and contribution,” said the official.
Pertinently, the Uri Awami Mela was inaugurated by Brigadier K Somashankar of 12 Infantry Brigade yesterday. “The event aimed at bringing various facilities offered by government at one common venue to assist the people of the small border town. The facilities included banking, medical camp, veterinary camp, employment avenues and an opportunity to experience myriad flavours of the Kashmir valley,” said the defence official.
“To strengthen the affinity and foster the understanding between people and Army various kind of equipments were showcased for general public. For the talented and spirited youth of the town, the event catered for providing information on job related queries including enrollment into Indian Army,” he said.
In its course of activities, it gave several opportunities to local talents who performed in various traditional and cultural programs highlighting the great cultural heritage of the valley, he said, adding that a vast variety of cuisines from different parts of the nation was a major take away.
“Army troops marked their participation in form of a Dog Show and a Band Display which left the crowd mesmerized. The success of Chinar 9Jawan Club and Uri Awami Mela can be gauged by the huge participation of over ten thousand including many prominent personalities of the valley. The amount of goodwill and brotherhood yielded in people of Uri is immeasurable and unquantifiable and will surely be another milestone in ensuing peace and harmony in the region,” he added.
