Srinagar, June 2:  Opposition National Conference and Congress MLAs staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly today to protest against alleged land grab by a Minister at Sidhra in the outskirts of Jammu city.
As soon as the House assembled, Congress and NC members took to their feet, demanding dismissal of the BJP minister who had allegedly encroached upon the 95 hectares of land.
Without naming the Minister, Congress leader Nawang Rigzin Jora, quoting from Daily Excelsior, said it has been established by the Revenue Department that the Minister had grabbed State land. He said that the Minister has grabbed hundreds of kanals of land since 2009 in Sidhra area in Jammu.
Speaker Kavinder Gupta refused to entertain the opposition demand saying the Revenue Department will inquire into the matter. However, Jora informed the chair that the media report was based on the report of the Revenue Department. “The report should be called from the District Administration Jammu and tabled in the House.”
Zulfikar Ali, PDP member and CAPD Minister, said the matter is subjudice and cannot be debated in the House. At this, the Speaker went ahead with the Question Hour.
The Congress members then charged into the well of the House shouting slogans against the PDP-BJP Government and later staged a walkout. They were joined by the National Conference members also.
