JAMMU, June 3: An innovative step to provide high quality seeds at the door steps of farmers “Seed on Wheels” was today flagged-off by Prof Pardeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), in the presence of Dr J P Sharma, Director of Research.
SKUAST-Jammu’s “Mega Seed Project” involves production, processing and distribution of high quality seeds. This kharif season, the university will be supplying 300 quintals of Basmati 370 seed to the farmers.
As a routine, the university also supplies seed to farmers through the Department of Agricultural, Jammu; Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and its sales counter at Chatha and to provide seeds at the door steps of farmers in the surrounding villages of the university “Seeds on Wheels” has been initiated.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the Director of Research for undertaking this initiative, whereby the university seed will go to surrounding villages on the week days for marketing university seeds, and it will be a joint venture of the Directorate of Research and Directorate of Extension.
On this occasion, the officers of the university present, were Dr K S Risam, Director Extension; Dr D P Abrol, Dean FOA; Dr S K Sen, Comptroller; Dr Dileep Kachroo, Registrar; Heads of the Divisions and officials of the Mega Seed Plant.
