EC issues notice to Mehbooba

JAMMU, June 4: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has been served a show cause notice by the Election Commission for alleged violation of model code of conduct while filing her nomination for the Anantnag Assembly seat bypoll.
Official sources said that the notice was served following objection that the car in which she had come on June 1 to file her nomination papers was carrying the national as well as the state flags, which is not allowed.
The notice was issued to her on June 2, they said.
Another objection that she was using an official car was overruled as she is a Z-plus protectee and is authorised to use an official vehicle, they said.
Mehbooba is contesting the Anantnag bypoll to be held on June 22. The byelection was necessitated following the demise of her father and the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed here.
Meanwhile according to the Returning Officer Anantnag Assembly Constituency, one candidate Abdul Rasheed Sheikh, MLA Langate, Independent, has withdrawn his nomination for the upcoming by-elections for Anantnag Assembly constituency.
Now, 8 candidates are in fray to contest the upcoming by-poll for the Assembly constituency, which will be held on June 22.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is also contesting the by-poll.
