Srinagar, June 6: Government today said 13 laws, which had become obsolete and outdated were repealed from Jammu and Kashmir and it was now mulling to establish a Law Commission.
In a written reply to a question of MLC Firdous Tak in Upper House, the Minister Incharge Law, Justice and Rural Development Department, said the review of laws in an ongoing process and periodical reviews are being carried out by the Department.
“In the year 2010, a Committee was constituted by the Department to identify obsolete and outdated laws and on the basis of the report of the said committee, 13 laws which had become obsolete/ outdated were repealed by the Jammu and Kashmir Obsolete Laws (Repeal) Act, 2010,” said the Minister.
The Minister further said that the Government is contemplating to establish a Law Commission in the State for reviewing the laws existing on the statute book of the State so that obsolete and outdated laws are repealed and necessary amendments are suggested in the existing laws for synchronizing them with the present day needs and requirements.
