IG cautions Poonch-Rajouri people against rumours

JAMMU, Sept 20: Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Dilbag Singh has cautioned the people from Poonch and Rajouri area to remain alert and keep watch on the activities of suspicious persons and immediately inform police.
In a press statement issued here today, the IGP said some rumour mongers were active in the area.  Some of the incidents of  pelting stones on houses and beating up some innocents have been reported by people. He said the police parties have been deployed at various places and in case of any movement of any suspects, they should inform police.
Mr Singh said the subordinate units have been briefed to remain extra vigilant, establish special nakas on all exit routes, activate VDCs and hold meetings with Sarpachs/ Panchs to allay fear and misgivings of public.
The IGP also cautioned that nobody should be allowed  to take law in own hands to indulge in hooliganism and mob violence. Referring to the incidents of beating up of two Army men by mob in Surankote area and two poor hawkers in Mendhar area in last two days, the IGP said that such incidents should not occur.
Meanwhile, SP Rajouri Mubassar Latiffie at a press statement today asked the villagers and the VDC men to remain alert and not to fall prey to the rumours. He said a few incidents of stone pelting have been reported which could be handiwork of some mischief mongers but as alleged by people no incident of children lifting has taken place. He said additional deployment of police jawans has been made in several areas and people should also keep eye on the activities of suspects. He also advised people not to give ear to the hear-say of the mischief mongers.
