SRINAGAR: Opposition National Conference MLAs today accused the State Government of diverting the sugar meant for public distribution in Anantnag district to poll bound Anantnag Assembly segment where Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is a candidate.
“We want to know from the Government whether it has diverted the sugar meant for distribution in other constituencies of Anantnag district to the Assembly segment where the Chief Minister is a candidate,” Abdul Majid Larmi, NC MLA from Homeshali Bugh said during question hour in the Assembly here.
He was also joined by his party colleague and Pahalgam MLA Altaf Ahmad Wani, who alleged that the sugar was used as an inducement to seek votes for the ruling party candidate in the June 22 elections.
However, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Choudhary Zulfikar Ali denied the opposition charges, saying there was no question of selective distribution of ration.
“Whatever stock of food grains was available in respective districts have been distributed among the people. We have not diverted any foodgrain from one area to another,” he said. (AGENCIES)
