VCs of KU, SKUAST-K, others call on Governor

SRINAGAR, June 9: Dr. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Dr. Andrabi discussed with the Governor various important issues relating to the functioning of the University and informed him about the response to the State Eligibility Test which was conducted recently, and the status of admissions including those in the offsite campuses of the University.
The Governor re-iterated the importance of the highest academic standards being maintained, alongside the maintenance of strict discipline and decorum by the students and their teachers.
Dr. Nazir Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) also met Governor and briefed him about several issues relating to infrastructural development, financial stringencies, re-organisation of available staff strength and filling up vacant posts of scientific staff and academic reform. He informed the Governor about the completion of the buildings of Division of Biotechnology and School of Horticulture Business Management at Shalimar Campus.
The Governor and Dr. Ahmad also discussed the University’s forthcoming Convocation and the ongoing collaborations with the national and international institutions in arena of research.
Fayaz Rahat, political activist and BJP leader in his meeting with Governor apprised him about certain developmental issues of Budgam area including healthcare, road infrastructure and other basic facilities. He also urged the Governor to intervene for the immediate release of relief for the 2014 flood victims.
The Governor assured Mr. Rahat to take up his demands with the concerned authorities and urged him to continue sustained pursuit of developmental goals in his area.
Dr. Showkat A. Zargar, former Director SKIMS also called on Governor.
The Governor and Dr. Zargar discussed the existing tertiary medical care system and the various measures required to step up health care facilities in the State.
