Govt examining 5 pc special reservation quota for Pahari speaking people

SRINAGAR, June 9: Government today said it is examining the proposal to grant 5 per cent special reservation quota to Pahari speaking people in the State.
Minister for Social Welfare, ARI & Trainings and Science & Technology Sajad Gani Lone, in a written reply to a question by MLA Altaf Ahmad Wani in Legislative Assembly, said a proposal regarding 5 per cent special reservation quota for Phari speaking people is under the examination of the Government.
“It is being done in consultation and cooperation with Jammu and Kashmir Commission for Backward Classes,” the reply said.
Regarding the uplift of Pahari speaking people, the reply said the State Government has already constituted State Advisory Board for the development of Pahari people in 1989. “The objective of this Board is to raise the educational standards of the students of Pahari speaking community,” the reply said.
It said two schemes, management of Boys and Girls hostels and grant of pre-matric and post-matric scholarships, have been implemented by the Board.
“There are nine hostels for boys managed by the State Advisory Borad for the development of Pahari speaking people,” it said.
