JAMMU, June 9: A function was organized at Raipur-Sayeedan (Suchetgarh) to mark the 10th Death Anniversary of Grenadier Shaheed Vicky Singh, who sacrificed his life at Bandipora in Kashmir valley on June 9, 2006, while fighting the militants.
Former Minister and Member Rajya Sainik Board, J&K, R S Chib, was the chief guest on the occasion and rich tributes were paid by some prominent citizens of tehsil Suchetgarh. Retd Sub Dharmesh Singh, father of the Martyr, also spoke and said that he was proud to be father of Shaheed Vicky Singh and his whole family will always remember his sacrifice for the country.
R S Chib said that his sacrifice cannot be forgotten by the Nation and he attained martyrdom at early age of 21 years. Mr. Chib asked younger generation to draw inspiration from the life of Shaheed Vicky Singh who sacrificed his life while defending his motherland.
Mr Chib said it is matter of great concern for the nation that the militancy related incidence have increased in the valley for last one year and the pro-Pakistan forces are raising their ugly heads.
Pitching for establishment of Sainik Colony for ex-soldiers in Kashmir valley, senior Congress leader criticized the attitude of PDP-BJP alliance, and also NC, towards the same. He urged upon his party leadership to maintain an independent identify.
What happened to the decision of UPA Government, to provide 5-marla plots to the residents of border areas including Suchetgarh in safer places, at the time of Pak firing which takes place very often asked Mr Chib? The BJP-PDP alliances after taking over the reins of the State have declared “no plots for the border area residents”. I leave it to our people living on zero line of border (soldiers in civil uniform) to judge the performance of our new regime of BJP-PDP?
The prominent among those, who addressed the gathering and paid tributes included Choudhary, Mahinder Singh, Sarpanch PYT, Baspur, Sham Singh, Chairman Panchayati Adalati Committee, Baspur, Pritam Singh , Panch, Kasturi Singh Chib, S Arjun Singh, Vijay Singh. Earlier, Sub Maj Dharmesh Singh, Father of the Shaheed and his mother paid floral tributes, along with number of prominent persons of the area.
