Provide drinking water to everyone: PHE Minister

JAMMU, June 11: Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary today said the Government was committed to providing safe drinking water to people across the State.
Chairing a meeting of top officers of the departments, here today, the Minister had a detailed review of working of these vital units of the Government which have been entrusted the task of ensuring basic services to the people.
The Minister asked the senior officials to monitor the functioning of their respective departments on a regular basis so that people might not suffer on this account. He also directed the officers to keep a strict vigil over the cleanliness of all water sources so that safe potable water was supplied to the people.
“People have a bigger role in keeping water sources clean and hygienic so they should be more responsible towards their duty,” the minister asserted.
The Minister also directed the officials to supply water in canal so that more irrigated area is covered and directed the Flood and Irrigation officials to ensure preparation for rainy season.
The meeting was attended by Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner Secretary, Public Health Engineering, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Department; Rajeev Gandotra, Chief Engineer, Public Health Engineering; V K Aima, Chief Engineer, RTIC, MC Jerath, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and other officers of the department.
