PDD realises Rs 1937.35 cr from consumers

Srinagar, June 11: Government today revealed that Power Development Department (PDD) had realised revenue of Rs. 1937.35 crore in the form of power tariff from its consumers against the consumption of 6,580.765 Mega Units (MUs) of electricity during 2015-16.
In a written reply to a question Pawan Kumar Gupta in Lower House, Minister Incharge Power stated that Government has realized Rs. 1937.35 crore including Rs. 1074.02 from Jammu Rs 837.17 from Kashmir and Rs 26.16 crore from Ladakh region against the consumption of 3692.965 MUs, 2808 MUs, 79.80 MUs of electricity from the three regions respectively.
The Minister stated the power purchase liability ending March 2015 was Rs. 5037.47 crore and expected liability ending March 2016 was about Rs. 6950 crore. “In order to liquidate power purchase liability Government has decided to restructure the outstanding debt by participation in UDAY Scheme and through state bonds,” said the Minister.
The Minister said: “Under Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojna (UDAY), Rs. 3537.55 crore are to be lifted, out of which Rs. 2140 crore has already been lifted and balance of Rs. 1397.55 crore will be raised during current financial year. The state bonds to be raised by the Government along with balance of UDAY funds will be used to liquidate the balance power purchase liabilities.”
The Minister further stated in order to improve revenue realization department has initiated various steps including inspection of various consumer categories for regularization of loads exceeding their contract demand and compliance of metering and proper energy accounting.
“107448 numbers of inspections were conducted during 2015-16 and penalty of Rs. 11.76 crore were imposed against which Rs. 6.91 crore were recovered from the defaulters,” added the Minister.
