JAMMU, June 11: The former legislator and senior Congress leader, Ashok Sharma, has demanded early commencement and time-bound completion of construction of prestigious Jammu-Kalakote-Rajouri-Poonch rail link project.
Addressing party workers in Kalakote constituency, Sharma said that the Railway line should be laid in such a manner so that it connects holy shrines of Shiv Khori, Shahdara Sharief, Budha Amarnathji, Sain Meeran Ali, Sain Allah Bakash and Nangali Sahib, besides the coal reserves, limestone rich belts of Kalakote and Mandi, and Sulphur water spring of Tattapani.
He said that the alignment of the rail line should cover Sunderbani and Nowshera towns and historical spot of Chingus on the Mughal Road. He further said that besides promoting pilgrimage, adventure and leisure tourism in the area, it would largely help in setting up of the cement plants and re-commissioning of Kalakote Thermal Power House to suffice the electricity requirements of the people of these districts.
Sharma also demanded bringing Poonch and Rajouri districts on the air map by developing airports at Rajouri and Poonch to provide much needed faster connectivity to these areas.
