UDHAMPUR, June 12: Up in arms against  perpetual power cuts and drinking water scarcity in the Udhampur district, Panthers Party workers from different areas held a strong protest demonstration under the leadership of former MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia.
The JKNPP activists from  Tikri, Mand, Jib, Thathi, Ossu, Darsoo, Kaisherah , Barta, Jaganoo, Mansar, Garnai, Battal, Malhar, Barmeen, Thanoa and other adjoining areas came out on the street in large numbers and  took out the protest march from Slathia Chowk to the office of X-En PDD and X-En PHE, Udhampur.
The protesting people raised slogans against PDP-BJP Government for subjecting common masses to suffer during the peak summer.
While addressing the protesters, Mr Mankotia said that drinking water shortage has brought miseries to the public in this spell of scorching heat and people are forced to drink water from pond and Nallahs. This shows total non seriousness of PHE Department towards common man,” he added and rejected the PHE Department’s excuse of daily wagers strike as cause for the erratic water supply.
The daily wagers have resumed their duties but even after that PHE Department fails to provide minimum drinking water facility to the common people,” he said and warned dire consequences if the Department fails to regularize the drinking water supply in the affected areas with a week’s time.
Mr Mankotia further sought immediate corrective measure for proper and regular power supply in rural areas, which are facing massive and unscheduled power cuts. He accused the local MLA of making false claims on power and water supply in the constituency.
Prominent among those,  who participated in the protest, included D R Arti, Sanjeet Sharma,  Sarpanch Rampal Bhagat, Subash Singh Sarpanch, Hans Raj Sarpanch, Hoshiar Singh Sarpanch, Joginder Sharma Sarpanch, Rebat Sarpanch, Sunil Gudda, Surjeet Singh Sarpanch,  Rakesh Sarpanch Jib, Rakesh Sharma Sarpanch Dhanori, Jagdev Jagga,  Amarnath Mehra, Rajinder Balli, Parveen Bhagat Naib Sarpanch, Vijay and others.
