KATRA, June 14: Matrimonial dispute of a newly married couple from New Delhi led to murder of the wife by her husband at Adhkunwari while on way to Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan, where the duo had arrived for performing Darshan of the deity at holy cave shrine in Katra.
The deceased, identified as 25 year old Lakshmi Gupta, was allegedly strangulated by her husband Shakti Gupta and then thrown into deep gorge from ridge along the track near Lambikeri at Adhkunwari. The duo had married on March 10, 2016.
Police has arrested accused Shakti Gupta, resident of B-2 Block , House number 488 Sultanpuri, Delhi-86. The husband confessed his crime and told the Police that taking advantage of darkness, he throttled neck of his wife and then pushed her deep into the gorge from ridge, informed SSP Reasi Sujit Kumar.
Earlier, death of the deceased, whose body was recovered this morning from the gorge and shifted to SDH Katra, was believed to be because of accidental fall.
However, during investigation, Police doubted statement of the accused husband, who had earlier complained regarding missing of his wife. Further enquiry from parents of the deceased authenticated suspicion on Shakti Gupta.
Following sustained interrogation of the husband, he confessed to have killed his wife and thus Police led by SHO Bhagwan Rajesh Sharma succeeded to solve blind murder of the woman within six hours since reporting of the crime.
