Peace pre-requisite for progress, prosperity: Bhalla

JAMMU, Sept 21: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla, called upon the people to supplement Government’s efforts of strengthening communal harmony and brotherhood to uphold State’s high ethos of hospitality and globally known culture and traditions.
The minister was speaking during ‘Aman Jyothi Peace Meet’ held at Carmel Convent High School, Kunjwani, which was organised by Catholic Social Service Society in association with J&K Peace Mission, here today.
The Minister said that the peace is pre-requisite for progress and prosperity, adding that each necessary step must be taken to further strengthen peace and tranquility in the State.
Referring to the turmoil period in the State, Bhalla said that this had led to heavy human and economic losses and severely damaged high traditions of communal harmony, secular ethos and value system.
The Minister hoped that that ‘World Peace Day’ will bring certain concrete recommendations for the people belonging to all walks of life to ensure peace and prosperity in every nook and corner of the State as well as Country. He stressed to follow the Gandhian ethics, value and holistic approach for peaceful world order.
On the occasion, about 12 schools of Jammu and Samba districts presented various colourful programmes, which were highly applauded by the jam packed audience. One of the main attraction of the programme was the speeches delivered by the winners of school level speech competitions.
The students who won first, second and third prizes in various competitions organised on the occasion, were awarded with prizes and certificates by the Minister and Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Rehana Batol.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Fr Varkey, Fr Joe Kalathil, Fr Kuriakose, Fr Joseph, Fr Alphonse, Fr Peppin, Fr Stalin, Fr Robin, Shreyansh K Jain, Vikrant Dogra and members from CSSS, JKPM and other civil society organizations.
