Srinagar, June 16: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmakers today took a dig at Government in Upper House for not extending financial assistance to an injured woman who was hit by bullets at Kud during shootout between a militant and security forces early this week.
As soon as the House proceedings began, the BJP members in Legislative Council got up from their benches and sought the attention of Chairman Haji Anayat Ali towards the injured woman, Rubi, wife of Ravi Kumar, an employee of Legislative Secretariat.
“Earlier the Government announced to extend all financial assistance for the treatment of the woman but now it is asking for bio-data. Does she need a job that she has to submit her bio-data,” asked the BJP legislators. The Chairman shortly after hearing to the legislators of BJP urged Government to ensure assistance to the injured.
In the meantime, Congress party MLA staged a walkout from Upper House over Kud shootout as he was seeking clarification with regard to the slain militant from Government.
Soon after the House met this morning, the Congress MLC, Ghulam Nabi Monga, raised the issue and said the family members of Tanveer Sheikh, the slain militant, have contested Government’s version on the incident.
“There was shutdown in Bemina area yesterday and the family members of slain have contested Government’s claim of Tanveer being a militant,” said Monga, adding: “Let the Government clarify and come up with a statement.”
However, the House Chairman, Haji Anayat Ali, urged Monga to sit down while there was also no response from treasury benches. “This is wrong, the Government should come up with a statement,” the Congress MLC said, and staged a walkout from the House.
