Ruckus in Assembly over reservation issue

Srinagar, June 16 : Cutting across party lines, several MLAs from opposition Congress, National Conference  and ruling PDP-BJP today stormed the well of house to protest against the alleged Government inaction in restoring the reservation in promotions for Government employees.
The issue rocked the Assembly for second time this week even as Government maintained that the issue cannot be discussed in the House as it was pending adjudication before the Supreme Court.
As the Speaker Kavinder Gupta didn’t pay heed to the MLAs demand of discussing the issue by halting Question Hour, Congress leader Nawang Rigzin Jora led several Congress and NC MLAs stormed into the well of the House. They were joined by PDP and BJP MLAs from the constituencies where the reserved category employees dominate Government services.
Jora also conducted mock Assembly proceedings in the well of the house on the issue of reservations. Several MLAs spoke in well of the House on reservation issue while the proceedings of the House continued. The protesting members had enacted similar scenes on Tuesday as well.
Law Minister Abdul Haq Khan intervened in the matter and reiterated that the House can deliberate on the matter only after the Apex Court delivers its verdict. “The members are aware that the matter is pending adjudication before the Supreme Court. Let the Supreme Court give its verdict and then we can take it forward,” he added.
Not satisfied with the Government statement, the agitating members staged a walkout from the house.
