LMD books national company, imposes Rs 1 lakh fine

JAMMU, June 16: To ensure strict enforcement of provisions of Packaged Commodities Rules in the interest of consumers, the Department of Legal Metrology Jammu booked Glaxo Smith Kline, a Gurgaon based national company engaged in manufacturing of consumers goods for not declaring net weight on the pre-packed commodities of ENO.
It is mandatory under law that  all the declarations like MRP, PKD, Net Weight, address of the manufacturer along with consumer helpline numbers and identity of the commodity should be legibly and conspicuously declared on the packages for information of the consumers.
Earlier, during an inspection to Best Price, it was found that large number of such packages were displayed for sale without marking net contents and same were seized. A notice was also issued to the management of the company under relevant Sections which in turn through their legal counsel assured for rectification in future and pleaded for closure of the case and same was compounded for Rs. 1lakh making all the directors responsible for omission under Section 49 (1) of the Act.
