Srinagar, June 18: Opposition National Conference (NC) and Congress legislators today staged a walkout from Legislative Assembly as they raised the issue of price rise and created uproar inside the House.
As soon as the House met this morning, the MLAs from Congress raised the issue of rise in the prices of essential commodities in the State. They raised the slogans like “Sarkar Ke Hai Achche Din, Baki Sab Ke Bure Din” (good days are for the Government, others have bad days) and “Mehbooba Ke Raj Mein Raashan Paani Mehenga Hai” (in Mehbooba Mufti’s Government, ration is costly).
They also accused the Government of diverting ration to poll-bound Anantnag Assembly constituency where from Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is contesting polls and voting is scheduled to take place on June 22.The Congress legislators were joined by NC MLAs including Mian Altaf, Ali Mohammad Sagar and Mubarak Gul and they demanded statement from the Government over the issue.
However, Speaker Kavinder Gupta did not pay any heed to them after which the Opposition legislators attempted to storm into the Well of House but were stopped by Assembly marshals. The legislators from NC and Congress had a brief scuffle with the marshals.
They continued their protest for a while but when Minister for Law Abdul Haq Khan asked the members to raise the issue in a proper manner rather than resorting to sloganeering and creating noise in the House, the opposition members staged a walkout.
“Let them raise the issue, we will answer. Why raise slogans?  We want the opposition to raise issues here and that makes us happy… We aren’t afraid (of sloganeering). We are here to respond,” Khan said, but the opposition members walked out of the House. However, the members walked in the House in few moments after staging walkout.
