JAMMU, June 19: Senior vice president of JKPCC and former Minister Sham Lal Sharma today expressed anguish over the purported recent statement of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who had allegedly made some sarcastic remarks against the Jammu leaders, during a function held here.
Addressing monthly meeting of Block Congress Committee, Chowki Choura, Sham also lashed out at Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh for remaining as a mute spectator when the Chief Minister was making these remarks on leadership issue in his own presence.
“Because of lust of power, the BJP leaders are even ready to accept such statements which effect the honour and prestige of the people of Jammu before whom they project themselves as so called champions,” the Congress leader said.
Mr Sharma also asked Mehbooba Mufti to clarify as to whether her statement was pertaining to only BJP or other parties also. “Till date Late Sheikh Abdullah, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had never made such type of sarcastic remarks against Jammu region and its leaders, it is not understood as to what prompted Mehbooba to make such a statement,” he said.
Sham Lal said that there is no dearth of leaders in Jammu region but those who have lust of power and have personal interest are unable to highlight the issues of their region. “Such leaders have completely surrendered themselves before PDP and thus bringing disgrace to Jammu,” he added and further alleged that BJP leadership lacked the strength and courage to raise voice of Jammu people, who had given them heavy mandate to safeguard their interests.
“All the promises made by the saffron party were proved false and people are now repenting for voting the BJP leaders who have no sense of responsibility and respect towards the needs and sentiments of Jammuites,” Sham said and added that expectations of people are not challenges but responsibility of elected representatives.
