JAMMU, June 22:  Pankaj Sharma’s impressive solo performance marked the play ‘Yeh Meri Wife Hai’, which was performed under the banner of Nav Durga Kala Manch at Abhinav Theatre here today.
Written by Azra Choudhary and Pankaj Sharma and directed and acted by Pankaj Sharma as the solo actor in multiple roles, the play in Hindustani while highlighting the changing paradigms of husband-wife relationships from the initial years of being loving and caring partners to their later transformation as adversaries, ended with the husband realizing the enormous sacrifices and dedication of his wife as a home maker.
It goes to the credit to the acting prowess of standup comedian Pankaj Sharma who as a solo actor enacted the witty conversations and anecdotes between a couple in a manner as we hear such kind of tussles and discussions among a husband and wife in almost every household.
The starting sequence of play- in which the actor masquerading as wife, directly narrates story of the play to audience while transforming as the husband with minimal change of costume-established the style of the presentation which successfully broke the fourth wall that separates the performer from the audience. The direct involvement of the spectators in the play which seems to touch the chord with everyone was highly appreciated.
However, the intermittent screech and thud of closing and opening of the auditorium door, the annoying mobile ringtones which robbed the intensity of crunch lines of the play could have been easily avoided by J&K Cultural Academy by installing a suitable door closure and proper hall management by the theater group.
