JAMMU, June 25: The stirring presentation of the Piyush Mishra’s play ‘Gagan Dhamma Bajeo’ by Sarthak Sanskriti Sang, Karnal, provided a befitting start to the three-day theatre festival being organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages in collaboration with Haryana Kala Parishad, Chandigarh, at the Abhinav Theatre, here today.
The message of the acclaimed play “Is this the India of Shahid Bhagat Singh’s dreams?” was raised in a very effective manner by the team of actors lead by actor-director Sanjeev Lakhan Pal.
Woven through the plot centered on the members of revolutionary party Hindustan Republican Association including Bhagat Singh, Chandershekhar Azad, Sukhdev, Rajguru and others, the play highlights the ideological stance of Bhagat Singh and the fact that his fight was not against British, but against the corrupt system and the disparity in society. He wanted that people should be treated equally and should have freedom of speech. But unfortunately that problem still prevails.
The two narrators of senior years and who are none other than the original members of the revolutionary party look back at the events of 1928 and 1929 including the killing of John Saunders, the bombing of the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi, the Assembly Bomb case trial and the subsequent hanging of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on March 23, 1931.
In an interesting play of flashbacks, the narrators not only successfully bring out the conflict of ideologies but also the fact that modern history has failed to project the heroes in right perspective and how the mobile addicted new generations are ignorant about the sacrifice of the revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, especially their dream of a nation in which the preliterate are truly free from all systemic oppressions.
The chief guest, Prof R. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, in his address appreciated the performance and said such performances should repeatedly be staged focusing the young generation so that the youth of our country be educated about the great legends of the nation like Bhagat Singh.
Suresh Verma, Mahesh Joshi, vice president and advisor of Haryana Kala Parishad, respectively, also spoke on the occasion and thanked Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, J&K Cultural academy for the initiative.
Tomorrow at 6:00 p.m., Theatre for Theatre, shall present the play Kisse Parsai Ke directed by Sudesh Sharma.
