JAMMU, July 1: Unemployed Veterinary doctors’ today held a protest against the Government demanding increase in number of posts of veterinary doctors advertised on June 17, 2016.
A large number of unemployed veterinary doctors today assembled near Press Club Jammu and held a protest under the presidentship of Dr Ishfaq Ahmad, president of the association.
Raising slogans against the Government, the protesting unemployed veterinary doctors demanded that the posts of veterinary doctors advertised on June 17, 2016 be enhanced.
Addressing the protesting unemployed doctors, Dr Ishfaq said that last year late Mufti Sahib has promised them rejuvenation of the Animal Husbandry department and employment to the qualified veterinarians.
“Late Mufti Sahib had also directed the then Animal Husbandry Minister, Sajad Lone to go for speedy recruitment but on June 17 this year, the department announced recruitment of mere 24 posts, which is a sheer insult to the emotions of more than 1000 qualified doctors”, he regretted.
Alleging that 2445 veterinary centres have near about 600 veterinary doctors in the State, he said lack of qualified veterinary staff is the reason of underdevelopment and underperformance of the Animal Husbandry department in the State.
“There has been meagre recruitment of vets in last 10 years. Only 14 new posts were created from 1984 to 1989 and since then no new post was created despite an increasing demand of veterinary hospitals in the State”, Dr Ishfaq said.
“The Planning Department agreed to create 420 posts in September 2012 but it took eight complete years for the Planning Department to clear the file in March 2015 and now the same is stacking in Finance Department”, he said and requested the CM to increase the number of posts advertised by clearing the file.
